About Westwood Baptist
On May 3, 1958, three Baptist churches of Waynesboro
announced they would sponsor a Mission at the west side of the city.
As a first step in organizing the mission, a worship service was
held at the Westwood Elementary School on May 18, 1958. Sunday
School classes began one week later. The Rev. Charles Smith,
Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church of Staunton served as
pulpit supply.
Today, the church is going into the future with the same mission on
which it was founded:
“To bring people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and
membership in His family; develop them to Christ-like maturity, and
equip them for their ministry in the church and life mission in this
world, in order to magnify God.”
Our vision is to be active and not reactive, to be a positive
influence in a negative world; To reach out to a lost and dying
world with the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe
the church of the new millennium must be vibrant and alive to
survive, and we welcome everyone to come and share our hopes and
dreams for the future. |
