Welcome

Dear Friend,

I would like to extend a warm invitation to you to come join us in worship of our Lord Jesus Christ at Westwood Baptist Church, where We Preach God’s Word … As It Is … To People … Where They Are.

Come be our guest for a vibrant and exciting worship service. It is our desire at Westwood that every person has a personal encounter with a living, loving Savior: Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God.Westwood Baptist Church

We believe that life is to be enjoyed, not endured. God is building a stronger New Testament church of spirit-filled believers, who are committed to prayer, personal ministry, evangelism, and discipleship, in order to reach the people of Waynesboro and beyond.

Please come and allow the Lord to make a difference in your life today!

In HIS service,
David S. Huffer, Pastor

~ Nkoya Partnership Update ~

Praise God for the wonderful news that we have exceeded the $10,000 needed to print 2,500 N.T. Bibles in the Nkoya language. God is truly good!

I had lunch with pastor Mike and we talked about the Nkoya Partnership and upcoming trip in June. He has asked that we pray for our translators in Kaoma, Zambia (our home town base camp). They are:

  1. Reuben Ngusulu - Reuben is the caretaker for the property we use in Kaoma and has become one of our most trusted and respected translators. Please pray for Reuben’s daily walk (and his family) with our Lord and that he will grow stronger in sharing the faith with the Nkoya people.

  2. Pastor Patrick Mufia Pastor Mufia is a strong Christian man that pastures the United Evangelical Church of Zambia. He is a wonderful translator and also is on the Bible translation committee.

  3. Kashondola Yuvweno Kashondola was our main translator on the first trip we took to Zambia.  Please pray that God keeps Kashondola close to Him and strengthens his daily walk.

Please be in prayer for these influential Nkoya men also:

  1. Mr. Lipoba – He led us to our meeting with Mwene Mutondo.

  2. Mr. Kalihonga – An influential business man in Kaoma

  3. Mr. Shumina – Our main translator in the meeting with Mwene Mutondo.

Please pray for the three that will be going from our church on June 21:

  1. Teresa Huffer

  2. Ann Smith

  3. Pastor Dave

Pastor Mike shared with me that many, many more souls were saved on their last trip to Zambia. His team was able to share the program “True Love Waits – Africa” with several schools and nurses at a main hospital. God worked through these programs in the lives of the Nkoya people.

The following are prayer requests for the upcoming trip:

  1. Please pray for pastor Dave as he makes calls to set up airplane tickets and the trip itinerary.

  2. Good health for all three missionaries.

  3. All plans will be made without any problems.

  4. All money will be raised or donated before June.

  5. All passports come in on time.

SOULS WILL BE SAVED BECAUSE WESTWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH WAS FAITHFUL AND OBEDIENT TO GOD’S COMMAND IN ACTS 1:8!

God bless each person at WBC as we work together to reach the lost people of the Nkoya trip in Zambia, Africa!

~ Westwood Hills Elementary Partnership ~

Can you feel the excitement around Westwood Baptist Church? God is moving in awesome ways in our church.

At our last business meeting, we voted to enter into a partnership/mission with Westwood Hills Elementary School. We have adopted the school as a mission outreach into our community and God is going to bless this partnership beyond our imagination.

We have the opportunity to touch a child’s life (and the teachers/administrators) of this school with the love of Jesus Christ. What an opportunity God has placed before us!

When I first mentioned this idea to Renae Deffenbaugh, the principle of Westwood, she was overjoyed. She shared with me how her teachers were in need of volunteers and how the children could use our help.

On Monday, August 20, I met with Mrs. Julie King, the guidance counselor at the school, and she too was ecstatic.  We discussed numerous ways that our church could provide help and support for the school. All of the needs will be run through Mrs. King in the guidance department.

The following ideas were discussed and will be ways that we can minister to the children and the school:

I. FINANCIAL OPPORTUNITES

A. Back-to-School Supplies – I have obtained a list of supplies for each grade level. If we could fill one back-pack for each grade level with the supplies on the list, this would be a great way to help the children that are unable to buy the supplies. The list will be in the church office if you would like to come by and pick one up.

B. Medications – From time to time, Mrs. King says there are families that are unable to afford their child’s medication(s). She indicated that many times the medication(s) were in the $10-20 range. She will contact the church when a need arises.

C. Fieldtrips – Numerous students are unable to go on fieldtrips because their parents cannot afford the cost of the trip. I assured her that NO CHILD should miss an opportunity to go on a field trip because of a lack of funds. She will contact us when a need arises.

D. Outside Counseling – There are children who need the services of a counselor outside of the school system. This is not very expensive but families are unable to afford this service. Mrs. King said that these sessions are not real expensive – maybe $10-$20 dollars a session.

E. Tragedies – Unfortunately tragedies do strike families in our community. At this time, when a family has lost everything, we will be able to step in and minister.

II. Healthy Snacks

Many times student’s families cannot afford a snack to send to school with their child. The child will have to sit while the others partake in snack time. We discussed providing a box full of healthy snacks that the children could choose from. This would be controlled by the classroom teacher. In other words, only the needy students would be able to get snacks from this box.

III Volunteers

Elementary teachers are in desperate need of volunteers. It could be anything from stuffing folders each week to running copies of teaching material. The following volunteer areas are needed:

A. Reading Buddies – Many children have difficulty reading at this age. Therefore, a reading buddy that would be willing to come in for approximately 20-30 minutes once a week would be appreciated. If you want to see a child’s face light-up – just read to them!

B. Lunch Buddies – Once a week for approximately 20-25 minutes. These children love to have someone come and eat with them. The child and their lunch-buddy would get to eat in the guidance office together. Believe-it-or- not these children look forward to this time each week.

C. Grandparent’s Day – Many of these children miss out on having grandparents come eat with them on this special day. What an opportunity to be an “adopted-grandparent” for a day. The kids love it!

These are only a few of the ways that we talked about helping. I am sure that if you wanted to volunteer, they would be happy to find a place for you to work.

FRIENDS – God has truly touched our church and each of us with many blessings. All He asks us to do is say: “Here I am, Lord. Use me.”  If you really want to make an impact in a child’s life, call the church office and volunteer with our new partnership!
